ABASEBENZI abaningi baseNyuvesi yaseCape Town (UCT) bayalufuna uguquko ngoba bayazi ukuthi ngaphandle kwalo isikhungo asinakusasa.

USolwazi Phakeng, ongungoti we-Mathematics, uthe bakhona abantu abazimisele ukusebenza ukuze kube noguquko kodwa bakhona nalabo abajabulela ukulokhu bebalisa ngezinto ezingenzeki.
“Ngokwami abantu abaningi, abamnyama nabamhlophe bayalufuna ushintsho. Isizathu salokho ukuthi bayabona ukuthi ikusasa le-UCT lilele ekutheni kube noshintsho, uma lungekho uguquko asisoze saba nokuthula,” kusho uSolwazi Phakeng.
I-UCT ingenye yamanyuvesi ahlonishwayo e-Afrika ngenxa yezinga lomsebenzi wayo ikakhulukazi kwezocwaningo. Kodwa kusanezikhalo ngokucwaswa ngokwebala kwabafundi nothisha bayo abamnyama.
Useke washo naye uSolwazi Phakeng ukuthi isikhungo senza umsebenzi oncomekayo ukuqasha othisha abamnyama kodwa asenzi umsebenzi owanele ukubathuthukisa ukuze bakhule kwande osolwazi abamnyama.
“Ukubalisa kukodwa ngeke kuzishintshe izinto, kufanele sizikhandle ngoba ngisho kungathiwa bonke abelungu bayashiya enyuvesi kufanele sikwazi ukuyiphatha ngoba ayiphathwa kuphela ngokubona ukuthi yini eyonakele, iphathwa nangokuthi senze nomsebenzi wabo,” kusho uSolwazi Phakeng.
Ubufakazi bokuthi kusakhona abangalufuni ushintsho lwabonakala sekusele kancane kuphume isikhangiso salo msebenzi njengoba kwaba khona ozakwabo abafafaza amanga bethi unezitifiketi eziwumkokotelo.
USolwazi Phakeng uthe lokhu akumkhathazanga ngoba wayazi ukuthi sekuneminyaka amagalelo akhe aziwa emphakathini.
Waqopha umlando eba ngowesifazane wokuqala omnyama ukuthola iziqu ze-PhD kwi-Mathematics ngo-2002. Uyiphini-likaShansela elimnyama lesithathu ukuphatha i-UCT, owokuqala kwaba nguDkt Mamphela Ramphele owalandelwa nguSolwazi Njabulo Ndebele.
Uvumile ukuthi ikhona ingcindezi yokuthi ungumuntu omnyama futhi ungowesifazane kulesi sikhundla.
“Nginengcindezi enkulu futhi iqiniso ukuthi lo msebenzi akuwona nje owami kodwa ngenzela abantu abamnyama, uma ngingahluleka kuzoba sengathi abantu abamnyama bahlulekile. Uma ngingahluleka kuzoba sengathi kuhluleke abantu besifazane abamnyama, ngiyakwazi lokho futhi ngifisa sengathi sonke singakubona lokho ukuthi impumelelo yami impumelelo yabesifazane abamnyama, impumelelo yami impumelelo yabantu abamnyama.”
Ube esephonsela abantu abamnyama inselelo.
“Uma sijabulela omunye wethu othole isikhundla esiphezulu, ukumbungaza kwethu akumele kuphelele lapho bese silindela izinto kuyena. Kumele sibeseke sibenzele izinto kunokulindela ukuthi kube yibo abasinika izinto.”
Nakuba engungoti we-Maths kodwa uthe lesi sifundo akusona esabantu abathize kuphela noma abahlakaniphile.
“Ngaphezu kwalokho kufanele sikhuthaze abafundi bethu ukuthi baphokophele ukuphasa ngamalengiso kuyona yonke into, hhayi nje kwi-Mathematics kuphela. Kufanele sikukhuthaze ukuzikhandla, ukuzimisela futhi abafundi kumele bazi ukuthi ukufunda vele akufanele kube lula ngoba uma ufunda usuke ukhula, ushintsha. Uma kulula, kusho ukuthi awufundi,” kusho uSolwazi Phakeng.
Ephawula nge-Maths Literacy, uthe zazizinhle izinhloso eyasungulelwa zona ngoba kwakwenzelwa ukuthi wonke umfundi akwazi ukubala ezoqonda izinto ezifana nokubala intela, ukuthenga ngesikweletu nokunye.
Kodwa into eyone izinto ukuthi izikole ziyishintshile le nto zase ziyisebenzisela ukuthola ngayo o-distinctions nokuzokwenza igama lazo libe lihle yize kungabasizi ngalutho abafundi.
USolwazi Phakeng uthe ubukela kunina owayengumsebenzi wasezindlini kodwa owazibuyisela esikoleni wagcina esenguthisha.
